The widow of late Nollywood actor John Okafor, widely known as Mr Ibu, has appealed to Nigerians for support, revealing that she and her children are facing severe financial hardship.
Her appeal came during a video interview published on Wednesday by content creator King Mitchy, where she appeared alongside some of her children and opened up about the family’s current reality since the actor’s death.
Speaking through emotion, she disclosed that their electricity supply had been disconnected for nearly two months due to unpaid bills and explained that the family now depends on water fetched from a well.
“We fetch water from the well. Because I have not paid the house rent. And they have even cut my lights for two months now. No lights since. We have been like that. Every night we go to look for a place to charge our phones. And… It’s not easy,” she said.
One of Mr Ibu’s daughters commended her mother’s efforts, saying she had continued to hold the family together despite the challenges.
“I want to thank God for my mom. She tries everything she can to feed us, to pay our school fees, to make us happy,” she said.
The widow also said the financial difficulties had begun affecting the children’s education, adding that they may no longer be able to continue schooling because of unpaid fees.

“Right now, they can’t go to school again. I can even show you the message the school sent me today,” she said.
King Mitchy, who shared the interview, said the goal was to draw support for the family to help cover outstanding school fees, settle rent obligations and reconnect electricity.
Mr Ibu, celebrated as one of Nigeria’s most recognised comic actors, died on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62.
