An independent investigative panel established by the federal government has reported that social media personality Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, was granted what it described as “extraordinary privileges” while serving his prison sentence.
Bobrisky was sentenced in 2024 to six months imprisonment for naira abuse. However, controversy later emerged after activist VeryDarkMan released an alleged audio recording claiming that Bobrisky said prominent lawyer Femi Falana and his son Falz attempted to secure a presidential pardon in exchange for N10 million. The claims were denied, and Bobrisky threatened legal action, describing the recording as defamatory.
Following the allegations, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, set up a panel to investigate the situation.
In its report submitted to the minister, the panel stated that Bobrisky was given privileges at both the Medium Security and Maximum Security Custodial Centres in Kirikiri, Lagos, which it said were far above what is legally permitted.
The panel alleged that mobile phones were accessible in both facilities and noted that Bobrisky was housed in a specially arranged private cell at the medium security centre. The cell reportedly included a personal bathroom and toilet, carpeted flooring, a television, refrigerator, humidifier, and enhanced lighting.
It further stated that meals were frequently delivered by close relatives and that her brother and sister-in-law provided regular food support.
According to the report, Bobrisky also operated under a self-feeding arrangement at the maximum security facility, though the panel said it was still unclear whether proper procedures were followed to approve it.
The report also claimed she received unrestricted visits from friends and family, a level of access not typically granted to other inmates.
At the maximum security centre, her cell was reportedly upgraded with wallpaper, a large bed, a carpet, a humidifier, and a soundproofed door, alongside an adjoining room fitted with a television. The panel said it would further investigate why such modifications were made and whether they were linked to phone usage or other activities.

It also alleged that a former inmate was assigned to attend to her personal needs, having previously worked in the chief warder’s office.
The panel added that she was sometimes moved using the Lagos State Controller’s official vehicle, with the controller personally accompanying her during transfers.
Among its recommendations, the panel called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate possible bribery involving officials of the EFCC or the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS). It also recommended prosecution if any wrongdoing is established.
Additionally, it urged the NCS to consider legal action against Bobrisky over alleged defamation linked to her claims of bypassing the prison system.
The panel further recommended that activist VeryDarkMan be prosecuted for alleged libel, incitement, and violations of data privacy laws, including claims of unlawful interception of communications and dissemination of unverified information targeting government officials and institutions.
