The Nigerian entertainment industry on Wednesday gathered in large numbers for the service of songs held in honour of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, as his funeral rites officially commenced.
The actor was said to have passed away on May 11, 2026, after a battle with kidney cancer.
As part of arrangements released by his family, colleagues, friends, and other industry figures converged at The Monarch Event Centre, all dressed in white to honour his memory.
Footage from the event shared online showed a massive turnout of actors, musicians, and entertainment personalities who came together to celebrate the life of the late star.
Those present included Funke Akindele, Kate Henshaw, Chioma Akpotha, Ebele Okaro, Nancy Isime, Ruth Kadiri, Nkechi Blessing, Stan Nze, Blessing Obasi, Frederick Leonard, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Chike Osebukam, and Cubana Chief Priest, among others.
The atmosphere was filled with worship and reflection as gospel ministers such as Peterson Okopi, Ebuka Songs, Mercy Chinwo, Nathaniel Bassey, and Kaestrings led sessions of praise, with Pastor Jerry Eze also ministering.

The Ekubo family had earlier announced his passing through his official Instagram page, urging the public and fans to keep the family in prayers during the mourning period.
The service of songs marks the beginning of the final rites for the late actor.
According to the burial programme, his remains will be taken to his hometown in Abia State, where a wake-keep will be held on June 17, before he is laid to rest on June 18.
