Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has imposed a restriction on the operations of commercial motorcycle riders, popularly known as Okada, across the state between 10:30pm and 5:30am as part of new measures to improve security and traffic control.

The directive was announced on Friday after the governor signed an executive order aimed at addressing rising insecurity concerns in the state.

According to the order, Okada operators will no longer be permitted to operate within the seven-hour window as part of efforts to strengthen safety across communities.

The development comes amid heightened tension following the abduction of more than 40 schoolchildren and parents in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15, with the victims still reportedly in captivity nearly three weeks later.

Makinde explained that the measure was part of broader strategies to enhance security and protect lives and property across the state.

He assured residents that efforts to secure the release of the abducted victims were ongoing and had not been abandoned by the government.

The governor noted that while authorities could not disclose full details of ongoing operations due to security sensitivity, significant work was being carried out in collaboration with security agencies.

Makinde urged residents not to interpret silence from officials as inaction, stressing that security operations often require discretion.

He also called on citizens to support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities, emphasising that safety is a collective responsibility.

The governor further reminded the public of the state’s emergency hotline, 615, which remains active for reporting security-related incidents.
