Kayode Are, former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), has officially commenced his diplomatic duties as Nigeria’s ambassador to the United States.
Are assumed office on Thursday after presenting his letter of credence to the United States government and President Donald Trump at the White House.
His deployment follows his nomination among a list of ambassadorial candidates forwarded to the Senate by President Bola Tinubu in November 2025.
The President had earlier submitted 32 nominees for confirmation, followed by an additional request seeking approval for three non-career ambassadors.
Are, who hails from Ogun State, was listed among the non-career nominees alongside Aminu Dalhatu of Jigawa State and Ayodele Oke of Oyo State.

The Senate later confirmed 64 ambassadorial nominees in December 2025, comprising 34 career diplomats and 30 non-career appointees.
Following the confirmation, Tinubu approved Are’s posting in January, officially assigning him as Nigeria’s envoy to the United States.
