The Federal Ministry of Works has announced a partial closure of sections of the Ikorodu–Sagamu Road beginning Monday to allow for ongoing reconstruction works to be completed.

The Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Mr Olayiwola Komolafe, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, explaining that the decision was taken to speed up the rehabilitation of the highway.

He said the directive followed instructions from the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, who ordered the contractor, Messrs Arab Contractors, to return to key sections of the project for urgent completion.

According to him, the affected areas include the stretch from Ikorodu Roundabout to Sabo Junction in Lagos State, as well as the Cement to Coca-Cola axis inward Sagamu.

Komolafe noted that traffic movement from Ikorodu to Sagamu would be redirected through construction zones under a controlled counterflow system.

He added that the reconstruction exercise is expected to last for about three months to allow proper execution of works and curing of the rigid pavement.

“The construction would last for three months to allow the execution of works and curing of the rigid pavement,” he said.

The controller also disclosed that traffic officials would be deployed to manage movement along the corridor during the period.

He said officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be stationed in the area to ease congestion and ensure safety.

Komolafe appealed to motorists to cooperate with traffic personnel and law enforcement agents throughout the duration of the project.

He also expressed regret over any inconvenience the road closure might cause to commuters and road users.
