The Lagos State Government has dismissed claims that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been asked to step down due to health concerns, describing the report as false and misleading.

The clarification was issued on Monday in a statement by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile.

According to the government, the report published by an online platform lacks any factual basis and should be disregarded.

The statement read in part, “We have noted with concern a false report by … alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been ‘ordered to resign on health grounds’ with the Deputy Governor set to take over.

“This report is false in its entirety. Nobody has asked the Lagos Governor to resign, this is another fake news, which has become a pattern of …..

“Governor Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, of sound mind, and is actively discharging his duties as Governor of Lagos State.”

The government also addressed speculation surrounding a recent meeting between the governor and his deputy, explaining that it was a routine engagement.

“Earlier today, the Governor received Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who paid him a courtesy visit to formally notify him of his intention to contest for Governor. The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, as is customary,” the statement added.

Authorities urged members of the public to ignore the report, stressing that the governor remains fully committed to his duties and continues to oversee the affairs of the state without interruption.
