Governorship aspirant Iyabo Obasanjo has stepped down from the race for the Ogun State governorship seat following the emergence of Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the 2027 election.
Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the Senate, was reportedly endorsed during a party meeting held at the APC secretariat in Abeokuta, where he emerged as the preferred candidate.
In a statement personally signed on Monday, Iyabo Obasanjo confirmed her decision to withdraw from the governorship contest and expressed appreciation to party leaders and her supporters.
“I congratulate him and wish him every success. I also thank the state and national leaders of our great party for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process.
“Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration.

Her decision effectively ends her bid for the Ogun governorship ticket as the APC moves closer to consolidating its position ahead of the 2027 elections.
