US President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Iran, saying the country could face devastating military action if it fails to comply with demands to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to global shipping.
Over the weekend, Trump reportedly gave Iran a 48-hour ultimatum, warning of severe consequences if it did not act. He also threatened to target critical infrastructure, including power plants and bridges, should Tehran refuse to comply.
The US president set a deadline of Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET (1 a.m. WAT) for Iran to reach an agreement.
Speaking during a press conference on Monday, Trump reinforced his stance, suggesting the US military could carry out a large-scale strike within hours if necessary.
“The entire country could be taken out in one night, and that night might be tomorrow night,” he said.
“We have a plan, because of the power of our military, where every bridge in Iran will be decimated by 12 o’clock tomorrow night, where every power plant in Iran will be out of business – burning, exploding and never to be used again, I mean complete demolition – by 12 o’clock.

“And it’ll happen over a period of four hours if we want it to. We don’t want that to happen.”
Despite the warnings, Iran has reportedly rejected a ceasefire proposal and is insisting on a permanent end to the ongoing conflict.
The development has heightened global tensions, as concerns grow over the potential impact of any military escalation in the region.
