Bolaji Tunji, Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media to the Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, has dismissed reports claiming that his principal has resigned from office.

This follows the circulation of a letter on Tuesday allegedly signed by Adelabu, announcing his resignation and citing plans to contest the 2027 Oyo State governorship election. The letter was said to be addressed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

However, speaking with TheCable, Tunji clarified that the resignation report is false, insisting the document did not originate from the minister.

“He has not resigned. That letter of resignation did not come from his office,” he said.

When asked whether Adelabu intends to resign in order to pursue his governorship ambition, Tunji responded, “when the time comes, everything will be revealed”.

Adelabu had earlier met with All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Oyo State in June 2025, where he reportedly declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election.

President Bola Tinubu had also directed political appointees seeking elective offices in 2027 to step down on or before March 31.

Adelabu, who previously served as Deputy Governor (Operations) of the Central Bank of Nigeria before leaving in 2018 to pursue politics, has made multiple attempts at the Oyo governorship seat.

He contested the 2019 election as the APC candidate but lost to Seyi Makinde of the PDP. In 2022, after losing the APC primary, he defected to the Accord Party and again contested the 2023 election, which he also lost to Makinde.

He later returned to the APC in 2023 and was subsequently appointed Minister of Power by President Tinubu.
