The Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna has adjourned the hearing of the bail application filed by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai until Wednesday.
The adjournment came after proceedings were conducted under heavy security, underscoring the public attention surrounding the high-profile corruption case.
Speaking with journalists after the session, El-Rufai’s counsel, Ukpong Akpan, confirmed the development but declined to go into details.
“I’m sorry, I can’t talk now, we are in the middle of work. I have to go and file responses. The hearing of the bail application has been adjourned till tomorrow,” he said.
Following the court proceedings, El-Rufai was escorted out of the premises by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission in a white Hilux vehicle.
Earlier, the former governor appeared in court under tight security for the continuation of the hearing on his bail application, similar to the arrangement during his earlier arraignment.
El-Rufai is standing trial before Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa on a 10-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering, conversion, and unlawful possession of public property.
He had been in detention for over a month before being brought to court, a development that has attracted widespread public attention.

The court had earlier scheduled March 31, 2026, for the hearing of pending applications, including the bail request.
However, the anti-graft agency reportedly granted him release on compassionate grounds on March 27, 2026, following the death of his mother, Hajiya Ummar El-Rufai, in Cairo, Egypt.
In a related development, El-Rufai was earlier on Tuesday arraigned before a Kaduna State High Court in Kawo on separate charges alongside one Amadu Sule, involving allegations of fraud, abuse of office, and intent to commit fraud.
These charges are distinct from the case before the Federal High Court.
After the state court proceedings, he was moved back to the Federal High Court within the same premises for the continuation of his trial.
The bail hearing is now expected to resume on Wednesday.
