Nollywood star Ireti Doyle has shed more light on her decision to keep her divorce from Patrick Doyle out of the public eye, stating that she owed no explanations to outsiders.
During a recent conversation with TV host Morayo Afolabi-Brown, the actress addressed questions about why both she and her ex-husband remained tight-lipped throughout their separation.
Ireti maintained that her silence was intentional, emphasizing that the details of her marriage and its eventual breakdown were private. She explained that such matters concern only those who were part of their lives from the beginning.
“First of all, you didn’t hear anything because it wasn’t your business. Two people come together to get married, and there’s a celebration. Sadly, something goes wrong, and you can no longer continue your journey together. The only people you owe an explanation to, if at all, are those small family and friends who gathered on day one.”
She also took a firm stance against airing personal issues online, noting that social media audiences are often more interested in entertainment than genuine concern. According to her, she refused to turn her pain into public spectacle.
“You see, the larger audience you’re performing for does not care. I personally would never knowingly give myself up as clickbait. You’re never going to win, so who are you explaining your matter to?”
Speaking on the emotional reality of ending a long-term relationship, the actress acknowledged that such experiences come with deep pain but insisted that healing should take priority over public reactions.

“The end of a long-term relationship, let alone marriage, is painful. Whatever the circumstances, not apportioning blame is painful. You need to spend the energy you’re using to perform for an audience who doesn’t care to sit down, go deep within, understand what went wrong for the sole purpose of not making the same mistake again.”
The couple, who got married in 2004, officially ended their marriage in 2023, with Ireti confirming the split herself. Despite the divorce, she revealed she would continue using the Doyle name, citing the strong personal brand she has built over the years.
