Nigerian singer Asake has opened up about his early struggles with his father while pursuing a career in music, revealing how he left home at 15 to follow his dreams.
Speaking on Kortyeo, the singer recalled that although he had a close bond with his father as a child, disagreements over his career path created tension.
He described his father as “more stubborn” than he was, making it difficult to confront him at the time.
“The father who gave birth to me, he’s more stubborn than I am. So I couldn’t look him in the face. We were close when I was younger, but I came to a point when I wanted to leave home to do what I am doing now, but my father said no. But I just took off regardless. I was 15 then, focused on where I was going. And there was nothing anybody could tell me,” Asake explained.
Despite the challenges, Asake stressed that his love for his father has never wavered. “Even if my father points a gun at me, he’ll always be my father. I love him as much as I love my mother,” he added.
