Veteran filmmaker Wale Adenuga has addressed recent remarks by comic actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, popularly known for his role as Papa Ajasco, over alleged financial struggles.

Ayoyinka had earlier revealed in an interview that despite his long-standing fame, he faces financial challenges and urged fans to keep supporting Papa Ajasco and Company. He also pointed out that the sitcom has struggled to maintain its relevance in the era of digital media, adding that he does not own a car or house and earns relatively small fees from the production.

Reacting to the claims, Adenuga described the narrative that followed the interview as exaggerated and not entirely reflective of reality.

“My first impression when I watched the Papa Ajasco video now trending on the internet, and local TV channels was: ‘Okay, so this guy has taken Papa Ajasco comedy into the public space,’” he said.

“It is all well and good. I am happy for him, as his money-making strategy using social media has apparently worked for him.”

He maintained that there is no rift between him and the actor, noting that their relationship remains cordial.

“He is very close to me, and so far there has been no irreconcilable difference between us,” Adenuga stated.

Addressing concerns about Ayoyinka’s welfare, the producer explained that the actor had received support over the years, including access to vehicles.

“On the car issue, we once gave him a car and Pa James as well. He has also used not less than five cars, including a Mercedes-Benz, at different times,” he said.

Adenuga also added that, to his knowledge, the actor owns a residence in Ogun State.

He further clarified that Papa Ajasco remains a protected brand, which restricts its use for personal ventures without proper authorisation.

“He cannot use the copyrighted brand name Papa Ajasco for personal ventures because it is our duty to protect the brand from inappropriate usage that could damage its reputation,” he explained.

However, he noted that Ayoyinka is free to take up endorsement deals once approval is granted by the production company.

“As he himself stated, all that is required is to seek official approval from WAP. This is part of brand protection,” he added.

Adenuga also dismissed claims that actors on the sitcom are limited in pursuing other opportunities, pointing out that many cast members regularly feature in other productions.

“This clearly shows that artistes working with us are not restricted from taking other roles,” he said.

He stressed that the company operates within professional standards and meets its financial responsibilities.

“The organisation pays according to industry standards and ensures all financial obligations are fulfilled as and when due. Therefore, any narrative suggesting financial abandonment or exploitation by our organisation is entirely false and misleading,” he concluded.
