The Lagos State Government has announced alternative traffic routes to ease congestion during the two-week partial closure of the Kara Bridge (Outbound Lagos), initiated by the Federal Government for repair works.
The advisory, shared on Tuesday via the official X page of the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, provides diversion plans for motorists and urges road users to plan their trips to minimise disruption.
Motorists coming from the Third Mainland Bridge will be redirected through Ketu, Mile 12, and Ogolonto to Ikorodu Garage, then proceed via Sabo Roundabout to connect with Isagamu Road or Itokin Road.
The ministry added that drivers from Lagos Island will need to pass through Ilubinrin, Ijora Bridge, and Eko Bridge to Funsho Williams Avenue, before linking Ikorodu Road through Ojota to Ketu and continuing toward Mile 12, Ogolonto, and Ikorodu Garage.
“In line with the partial closure of the bridge inward Opic/Mowe, motorists are advised to make use of alternative routes during the repair period.
“Motorists from Lagos Island are to link Ilubinrin to connect Ijora Bridge, access Eko Bridge to Funsho Williams Avenue, and link Ikorodu Road through Ojota to Ketu, before connecting Mile 12 to Ogolonto to Ikorodu Garage and linking Sabo Roundabout to Isagamu Road/Itokin Road,” the ministry stated.

An additional diversion is available via Ikorodu Garage and Sabo Roundabout, connecting Ogijo, Likosi, Shimawa, Lotto, and Mowe for onward journeys.
“Alternatively, motorists can also link Ikorodu Garage through Sabo Roundabout to link Ogijo to Likosi and connect Shimawa to Lotto to link Mowe and connect their destinations,” the statement added.
The ministry noted that traffic officials and management signs will be deployed strategically within the rehabilitation corridor to ensure smooth flow.
“Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, as well as traffic management signs, will be strategically deployed within the rehabilitation corridor. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid delays,” the ministry concluded.
The announcement comes after previous repair work on the same stretch caused severe gridlock, with motorists expressing frustration over prolonged congestion. This prompted the Federal Ministry of Works to initiate a multi-point repair plan to speed up the process.
