The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed it is investigating an alleged assault involving TikTok user Mirabel (@mirab351), who claimed she was attacked and raped by a stranger in Ogijo on Sunday.

The command’s spokesperson, Babaseyi Oluseyi, told PUNCH Metro on Wednesday that the survivor had been taken to a hospital “for extensive medical care to aid her recovery.”

According to reports, the survivor alleged that a male suspect forcibly entered her apartment and sexually assaulted her. She shared the incident on social media on Monday, sparking outrage online, with many users demanding swift action against sexual violence and stronger protections for survivors.

Earlier, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency said it had contacted a close friend of the survivor, who confirmed she had been discharged from the hospital.

“Following our earlier statement and the widespread public response, we successfully established communication with a close friend of the survivor who confirmed that she had been discharged from the hospital. We sincerely appreciate members of the public who provided helpful information via our direct messages, as well as everyone who tagged the Agency to ensure swift intervention,” the agency said.

The agency clarified that the case occurred in Ogun State, outside its jurisdiction, but said it had shared all relevant information with the appropriate authorities there.

“We have since confirmed that the incident occurred in Ogun State and is therefore outside the jurisdiction of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency. In the spirit of inter-agency collaboration and survivor protection, all relevant information at our disposal has been forwarded to the appropriate authorities in Ogun State. We understand that the Ogun State Police Command is currently handling the matter, and we trust that the survivor will fully cooperate with the appropriate authorities to enable a thorough investigation and due process,” the agency added.

Oluseyi further updated the public on the police response, saying:

“Upon receiving information about the incident, the Commissioner of Police directed the Divisional Police Officer, Ibafo Division, to immediately reach out to the victim. She reported at the Ibafo Police Station today (Wednesday), where the facts of the case were obtained. Preliminary findings revealed that the alleged act was committed within the Ogijo jurisdiction.

“She was promptly escorted to a medical facility for assessment and urgent attention. Following preliminary treatment, she was conveyed to the Ogijo Police Station, the jurisdiction where the incident occurred, for proper documentation and continuation of investigative procedures.

“Given her fragile condition, the victim has since been referred for extensive medical care to aid her recovery and to support the ongoing investigation. The command remains fully committed to ensuring her safety, well-being, and the diligent pursuit of justice in this matter.”

The case has continued to draw attention online, with renewed calls for stricter enforcement of laws against sexual assault.
