The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has reiterated that it operates as one unified national organisation, with its headquarters in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
CAN explained that its activities are conducted through officially recognised branches in accordance with Article 8(2)(1)(A–D) of its 2021 Constitution (as amended). These include zonal branches, state branches—including the FCT—local government branches, and district or ward units.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the association cautioned that it does not acknowledge any group calling itself “Northern CAN” or “Southern CAN.” CAN stressed that anyone using such titles is violating its Constitution, particularly Article 8(3)(6), which prohibits unauthorised use of the CAN name or acronym by any person, group, region, or organisation not formally established by the National Executive Council of CAN.
CAN also reaffirmed its commitment to unity, citing its motto from John 17:21: “That they may be one.”
The association urged Nigerians to avoid engaging with any unauthorised CAN entities, warning that continuing to use or support labels like “Northern CAN” or “Southern CAN” could result in legal action for contravening its constitutional provisions.

The statement, obtained by DAILY POST, was signed by CAN’s leadership, including its President, His Eminence Archbishop (Dr.) Daniel C. Okoh; the General Secretary, Apostle Professor Samson A. Fatokun; and leaders from its constituent blocs, including the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC), Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CSN), Christian Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (CPFN/PEN), and the Evangelical Church Winning All (TEKAN/ECWA).
The association concluded by urging the public to respect CAN’s officially recognised structure and branches as defined in its constitution.
