The Lagos State Taskforce has launched a renewed enforcement drive along the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road corridor, targeting commercial motorcycle operators, traffic offenders and illegal roadside structures.
The operation, which led to the seizure of more than 50 motorcycles and the arrest of 10 vehicles for traffic violations, was revealed through videos shared on X on Sunday by the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Jubril Gawat. The footage showed taskforce officials enforcing traffic laws and dismantling illegal structures along the corridor.
According to the post, the exercise focused on enforcing the ban on commercial motorcycles (Okada) on restricted routes, addressing one-way driving offences and removing shanties erected within the coastal road axis. Several motorcycles, including a dispatch bike, were confiscated during the raid.
“Lagos State Taskforce begins Okada Motorcycle enforcement, one-way enforcement and removal of shanties built along the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road corridor.
“Over 50 Okadas confiscated for riding on highways under Lagos State law. Ten vehicles arrested to be charged to court for driving against traffic. Enforcement continues,” the post read.
The latest operation follows earlier environmental and traffic control initiatives announced by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who confirmed in November 2025 that clearance activities were ongoing in parts of the corridor.

“Clearance operations are currently ongoing at Lakowe. The team is on ground removing illegal shanties, makeshift structures and roadside trading points obstructing drainage and pedestrian movement. Enforcement is also being carried out on street traders and environmental sanitation offenders within the corridor,” Wahab stated via his official X handle.
The renewed crackdown comes amid widespread complaints on social media about persistent one-way driving and reckless motorcycle activities in several parts of Lagos, despite the state’s ban on Okada operations on major highways.
State authorities insist the enforcement exercise is aimed at restoring order, enhancing road safety and safeguarding critical infrastructure along the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road project.
