A Federal High Court in Abuja has approved the release of Nollywood actress Angela Okorie on bail in the sum of N5 million in connection with an alleged cyberbullying case involving a fellow actress.
Ruling on the bail request presented by her lawyer, Earnest Nwoye, Justice Emeka Nwite held that despite objections raised by the prosecution, the court was not convinced that Okorie would evade trial if granted bail.
In his words, “Therefore, I am minded to grant the bail in the interest of justice,” noting that the decision to grant bail lies within the court’s discretion and must be applied “judicially and judiciously.”
The judge stipulated that the actress must provide one surety in the same N5 million sum. According to the court, the surety must be a level 13 civil servant who is required to swear to an affidavit of means.

Justice Nwite also directed that the surety present a valid letter of appointment and proof of their most recent promotion. In addition, both Okorie and her surety were ordered to submit two passport-sized photographs to the court registrar, who is also to verify the surety’s residential address.
The matter was adjourned until March 23 for the trial to begin. Until all bail conditions are met, the court ordered that Okorie remain in custody at the Suleja Correctional Centre.
