The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the interception of a truck transporting items believed to be explosive materials in the Sango area of Ibadan, the state capital.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, the vehicle was stopped during a routine stop-and-search operation prompted by credible intelligence.
He disclosed that the truck driver was immediately arrested and that 42 items suspected to be explosive devices were recovered and taken into police custody.
Olayinka stated that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Femi Haruna, has directed a thorough investigation into the incident to uncover the source and purpose of the materials.
To ensure public safety, he said officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, alongside experts from the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) unit, have been deployed to secure the recovered items and carry out forensic assessments.

The police spokesperson added that detailed forensic examinations are currently underway to establish the exact composition of the materials and their intended use.
He reassured residents of Ibadan and surrounding areas that there is no immediate threat, urging the public to remain calm as investigations continue, with assurances that further information will be shared as developments unfold.
