Late Nigerian Fuji musician Afeez Adeshina, popularly known as Destiny Boy, has been laid to rest in Ogun State.
The burial ceremony took place on Friday at his father’s home in Odo Rori Compound, Ayetoro Yewa, where family members, friends, colleagues, and fans gathered to bid farewell to the young artiste.
Destiny Boy passed away on January 17 after battling a prolonged illness. He was 22 years old.
The final rites, announced by a family representative, Alabi Gbenga, were marked by deep emotions as mourners watched his remains arrive in a white ceremonial vehicle. His body was later carried on a traditional mat to its final resting place, amid tears and wailing from grieving relatives.
Speaking during the ceremony, family members described the late singer as a “kind-hearted, humble, and exceptionally hardworking young man,” whose love for music defined his short but impactful life.
They noted that Destiny Boy’s passion for his craft led to several collaborations with artistes across Nigeria, adding that his music and lively personality left a “lasting impact on all who knew him”.

Earlier, his mother, Saidat Adeshina, had revealed that her son’s health challenges began about two years ago while preparations were underway for the naming ceremony of his first child. According to her, the family explored every possible option, including medical and traditional remedies, in a desperate effort to save his life.
Following his death, controversy erupted after an audio recording surfaced online, allegedly featuring Saidat placing curses on her son. The recording sparked widespread reactions, but both Destiny Boy’s sister and mother denied the claims, insisting there was no ill intent.
Saidat also disclosed that she had received death threats linked to the circumstances surrounding her son’s death.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed on Monday that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the singer’s death, as investigations continue.
