A fire outbreak has damaged part of Leventis Plaza in Abuja, with a tailoring workshop on the first floor of the commercial complex affected by the incident.
The Federal Fire Service (FFS) disclosed that the fire was suspected to have been triggered by an electrical surge. The incident was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Service’s spokesperson, Paul Abraham.
According to the FFS, firefighters acted swiftly after receiving the distress call, successfully preventing the fire from spreading to other parts of the plaza and nearby facilities such as Grand Square, The Palm Hotels and Frazier’s Suites.
“The Federal Fire Service successfully responded to a fire incident at Leventis Plaza, affecting a tailoring workshop on the first floor. The fire, suspected to have been caused by an electrical surge, was contained promptly, preventing its spread to the wider plaza and neighbouring commercial structures, including Grand Square, The Palm Hotels, and Frazier’s Suites,” the statement said.
Abraham explained that operatives from the Special Unit at the National Headquarters were immediately deployed once the emergency call was received.
“Upon receiving the emergency call, the FFS Control Room immediately dispatched the Special Unit firefighters from the National Headquarters. The crew, led by SF Adoko, arrived at the scene within five minutes and took swift action to contain the blaze,” he added.

The spokesperson further noted that the prompt response helped save property worth about ₦900 million from an estimated ₦1 billion that could have been lost to the fire.
“Firefighters carried out firefighting operations, salvage, and overhaul procedures, followed by a thorough inspection of the affected area. Their timely intervention resulted in the protection of property valued at approximately 900,000,000 Naira out of an estimated 1,000,000,000 Naira prior to the incident,” he stated.
Abraham reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Fire Service to safeguarding lives and property, while also advising the public to be cautious with electrical installations to avoid similar occurrences.
