The burial of late gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, has been postponed following unresolved disagreements within her family.

The announcement came on Saturday from Lanre Alewilese, a close friend and colleague of the singer, who shared a statement on social media.

“To whom it may concern: This is to inform you that all plans and arrangements for the burial of our late sister and colleague, Lady Evangelist Bunmi Akinnaanu a.k.a. Omije Ojumi, by the Burial Planning Committee has been totally cancelled. This decision became necessary due to some issues arising from and within her family. We deeply regret the inconvenience,” the statement read.

Omije Ojumi passed away on January 12, 2026, after battling a long-standing leg ailment that had previously raised concerns among her fans and fellow gospel musicians. Prior to her passing, she had appealed for prayers and shared updates about her condition, seeking divine intervention.

Earlier, burial arrangements had been made public by fellow gospel singer Alayo Melody, who posted an official flier on Instagram detailing the programme.

The planned events were set to start on Tuesday, January 20, with a service of songs at the LTV 8 Ground, followed by a candlelight procession at 7pm and a tribute and artistes’ night at 8pm. The interment service was scheduled for Wednesday, January 21, and was intended to be attended only by close family members and associates.

Bunmi Akinnaanu began singing at the age of 10 and eventually left her banking career to pursue gospel music full-time. She rose to national prominence with her hit song Omije Ojumi, which became widely embraced in churches and homes across Nigeria.
