Nigeria have secured a place in the semi-final of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after recording an impressive 2–0 victory over Algeria in Saturday’s quarter-final encounter.

The Super Eagles delivered a dominant performance against the Desert Foxes, controlling large spells of the first half but failing to convert their chances into goals. Nigeria came closest before the break when Calvin Bassey’s effort was dramatically cleared off the goal line.

Eric Chelle’s side, however, found their breakthrough after the restart. Victor Osimhen rose highest to head home a well-delivered cross from Bruno Onyemaechi, giving Nigeria a deserved lead.

Osimhen later turned provider, setting up Akor Adams to seal the win with Nigeria’s second goal of the night.

With the result, the three-time African champions move into the last four of the tournament and will face host nation Morocco in a highly anticipated semi-final clash, with a place in the final at stake.
