Former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has spoken publicly for the first time after a devastating road accident in Nigeria that led to the deaths of two members of his inner circle.
The accident occurred on December 29 along the Lagos–Ibadan expressway. Joshua, who was involved in the crash, suffered only minor injuries, but the incident proved fatal for his personal trainer, Kevin Latif Ayodele, and his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami.
The 36-year-old boxer received medical attention and was discharged on New Year’s Eve before flying back to the United Kingdom on Saturday.
On Sunday, Joshua addressed the tragedy through a heartfelt post shared across his social media pages. Alongside emotional photos showing him standing in solidarity with the bereaved families of Ghami and Ayodele—whom he fondly referred to as Sina and Latz—Joshua wrote: “My Brother’s Keeper ❤️🕊️❤️.”
The images reflected a somber moment, capturing the former champion offering comfort and support to the families of his late teammates.
Both Ghami and Ayodele, described as “close friends and integral members of Anthony’s team,” are expected to be buried later on Sunday at a mosque in London.
Meanwhile, Nigerian authorities have confirmed that the driver involved in the crash, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving as well as driving without a valid licence. The Ogun State Police Command filed the charges on Friday.

The case has been adjourned until January 20 by a magistrate’s court. Although bail was granted in the sum of ₦5 million, the suspect remains in custody pending the fulfilment of the bail requirements.
Despite being born in England, Joshua maintains strong ties to Nigeria, particularly Sagamu in Ogun State, which he considers his ancestral home. He visited the country last year, spending time with local celebrities and presenting President Bola Tinubu with a signed boxing glove.
Joshua’s recent trip to Nigeria followed shortly after his victory over Jake Paul, whom he knocked out in an exhibition heavyweight contest at the Kaseya Centre in Miami.
