Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday administered the oath of office to Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa as the substantive Chairman of Agege Local Government, charging him to focus on grassroots development and ensure his leadership aligns with the state’s broader development vision.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at Lagos House, Ikeja, and also featured the inauguration of Toyin Adejimiwa as a Permanent Secretary.

Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, who is the son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudasiru Obasa, had been serving in an acting capacity before his confirmation and formal inauguration.

Speaking at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasised that local government remains the closest arm of government to the people, noting that leadership at that level must be visible, responsive and compassionate. He urged the new council chairman to adopt an inclusive approach to governance, steer clear of divisive practices and concentrate on delivering tangible benefits to residents.

The governor added that discipline, accountability and performance continue to be the key criteria for leadership and career progression within Lagos State.

Sanwo-Olu also recognised the presence of retired permanent secretaries at the ceremony, describing them as dedicated public officers whose service and legacies still inspire the state’s civil service.

He congratulated both Adejimiwa and Obasa on behalf of the Lagos State Government and its citizens, expressing optimism that they would live up to expectations and make meaningful contributions to the state’s development.

In their separate remarks, Adejimiwa and Obasa expressed appreciation to the governor for the opportunity and pledged to uphold the values, standards and traditions of public service in Lagos State.
