The Anambra State Police Command has arrested five male suspects allegedly posing as vigilance operatives and using firearms to rob unsuspecting members of the public.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Sunday in Awka.
According to him, the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, as part of ongoing investigations into cases of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.
“In furtherance of the ongoing investigations on a case of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery, police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu have arrested five suspects,” Ikenga said.

He disclosed that items recovered from the suspects include two pump-action rifles, five live cartridges, an ash-coloured shuttle bus, face masks, number plates, and other incriminating materials.
Ikenga explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly operated with a shuttle bus while pretending to be vigilance personnel. He added that during interrogation, the suspects made confessional statements and admitted their involvement in various criminal activities.
The police spokesperson further stated that the suspects are currently cooperating with investigators and providing information that could lead to the arrest of other accomplices.
He assured residents that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property across the state, while also calling on the public to continue assisting the police with timely and credible information to help prevent and combat crime in Anambra State.
