Aloy Ejimakor, lawyer to Nnamdi Kanu, has revealed that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has been moved to a correctional facility in Sokoto following his life imprisonment sentence.
“MAZI NNAMDI KANU has just been moved from DSS Abuja to the correctional facility (prison) in Sokoto; so far away from his lawyers, family, loved ones and wellwishers,” Ejimakor wrote on X.
Kanu was found guilty of terrorism on Thursday by James Omotosho, judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
He received life imprisonment for counts one, four, five, and six of the seven-count charge. In addition, the IPOB leader was sentenced to 20 years and five years on counts three and seven, respectively.
Delivering the judgment, Omotosho stated that the prosecution had successfully proven all allegations and noted that Kanu “offered no credible defence and deliberately refused” to challenge the evidence presented in court.
Describing Kanu as “a person who cannot be allowed to remain in the company of sane minds” and “an international terrorist,” the judge explained that the IPOB leader’s conduct during the trial made him unsuitable for Kuje prison.

“I have no hesitation in coming to the conclusion that the convict has the tendency of violence. The tendency of violence has not left him,” Omotosho said. He added that due to Kanu’s violent attitude, the leader must be placed in protective custody, regardless of location in Nigeria.
The judge further ordered that Kanu must not have access to electronic devices, including phones, unless under the supervision of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA). Items recovered from him, including a transmitter smuggled into the country, are to be forfeited to the federal government.
