The Edo State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recovered 1,455 kilograms of cannabis from two abandoned buses along the Okhokho-Isi community road in Uhunmwode Local Government Area.

In a statement on Monday, State Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju revealed that the seizure occurred on October 29, 2025, around 3:00 AM, when officers intercepted two Toyota Sienna buses suspected of transporting large quantities of narcotics.

“The seizure took place on October 29, 2025, at approximately 3:00am, when a team of dedicated officers intercepted two Toyota Sienna buses suspected of transporting a substantial quantity of narcotics along the Okhokho-ISI community route in the Uhunmwode Local Government Area,” the statement read.

According to Ofoyeju, both vehicles originated from Okpuje, a community known for cannabis cultivation and trafficking. The first, a light blue Toyota Sienna with registration number EPE 545 EV, contained 666 kilograms of dried cannabis sativa. The second, a dark ash Toyota Sienna with registration number ABC 142 CD, was carrying 789 kilograms of the same substance.

Unfortunately, no suspects were apprehended as the traffickers abandoned the buses and fled. “The NDLEA is actively pursuing leads and conducting thorough investigations aimed at bringing these traffickers to justice,” Ofoyeju added.

He warned drug traffickers in the region, emphasizing that the agency’s ongoing investigations reflect its commitment to combating illegal narcotics. “Those who thought they could evade the law and exploit communities through illicit drug trade should think again. The police are prepared and committed to enforcing the law with unprecedented measures against harmful substances and their distributors,” he stated.

Ofoyeju reassured the public of NDLEA’s vigilance and collaboration with local communities to maintain safety and a drug-free society. He urged citizens to report suspicious activities, stressing that collective effort is crucial in the fight against drug abuse.

“The fight against drug abuse and trafficking is a shared responsibility, and with collective efforts, a brighter, safer future is our collective target,” he concluded.
