Tragedy struck along the Ilaro-Ibese Expressway in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State on Sunday when a yet-to-be-identified minor died after falling from a motorcycle into the tyre of a moving truck.
According to reports, three other persons sustained varying degrees of injuries in the fatal crash.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident in a phone conversation on Sunday.
Akinbiyi explained that the crash, which happened around 5 p.m., involved a cement truck with registration number MDB 249 XA and an unregistered motorcycle.
He said the motorcycle, which was carrying four passengers, hit a bad section of the road, causing the minor to lose balance and fall into the truck’s tyre.

He said, “A fatal RTA occurred along the Ilaro-Ibese Road, inbound Ilaro, at about 1640hrs on Sunday. It involved a cement truck with the number plate MDB 249 XA and an unregistered motorcycle.
“According to eyewitnesses, due to the bad road, the motorbike rider lost control and fell close to the truck’s tyre. The impact of the collision reportedly led to the death of the female child, while three adults were injured.”
Akinbiyi added that the injured victims were rushed to the Ilaro General Hospital for treatment, while the deceased was taken to the hospital’s morgue.
“The three adults were taken to the Ilaro General Hospital for treatment, while the presumed dead female child was deposited at the Ilaro General Hospital morgue,” he said.
The TRACE spokesman further disclosed that the incident caused outrage among commercial motorcyclists in the area, who reportedly went on the rampage after the crash. However, security agencies were able to restore calm and ensure the free flow of traffic.
“Motorcycle riders began causing an uproar, but with the combined efforts of TRACE, the police, Amotekun, and the Nigerian Army, traffic normalcy was restored. The truck in question was taken to the Ilaro Police Station,” Akinbiyi concluded.
