The Enugu Police Command has arrested five men in connection with alleged armed robbery and other related crimes in different parts of the state.
In a statement on Sunday, the command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, said that police recovered two firearms and seven rounds of ammunition from the suspects.
Ndukwe explained that on 29 October, around 5:45 p.m., officers from the Distress Response Squad stopped a shuttle bus traveling from Enugu to Abakaliki along the Enugu–Abakaliki Road.
“Upon searching, the occupant was found in unlawful possession of a cut-to-size locally made single-barrelled gun and was immediately detained. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was travelling from Awka, Anambra State,” he said.
He added that on 28 October, at approximately 10:30 p.m., operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, acting on reliable intelligence, raided New Garriki in Ukwu-Achara, Enugu, and apprehended another suspect.
“A locally fabricated Beretta-like pistol loaded with one round of 9mm calibre ammunition was recovered from him,” Ndukwe stated.
