Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has been shortlisted for the 2025 CAF Men’s African Player of the Year award.
The Nigerian striker is among the 10 players named in the list of nominees released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Wednesday.
Other contenders for the prestigious award include Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and Oussama Lamlioui, as well as Guinea’s Seyrou Guirassy.
Also nominated are Fiston Mayele of Congo, Cameroon’s Frank Anguissa, Denis Bouanga of Gabon, and the Senegalese pair of Illmane Ndiaye and Pape Sarr.

Osimhen, who won the award in 2023, enjoyed a stellar campaign last season with Galatasaray, netting 26 league goals to help the Turkish giants clinch the league title. His impressive performance prompted the club to secure his services permanently from Napoli in a record-breaking €75 million transfer — the highest in Turkish football history.
The Super Eagles star was equally influential for Nigeria during the World Cup qualifiers, scoring six goals in six matches to secure a playoff berth for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Stanley Nwabali has been nominated for the Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year category. The Chippa United shot-stopper will contest the award alongside Morocco’s Yassine Bounou, South Africa’s Ronwen Williams, and Cameroon’s Andre Onana.
In addition, Flying Eagles captain Daniel Bameyi has been shortlisted for the Men’s Young Player of the Year award.
Last week, the Super Falcons duo of Rasheedat Ajibade and Esther Okoronkwo were also named among the nominees for the CAF Women’s Player of the Year prize.
