President Bola Tinubu has appointed Muhammad Babangida, son of former military president General Ibrahim Babangida, as chairman of the Bank of Agriculture.

The appointment is part of the federal government’s ongoing effort to revamp the bank. The Bank of Agriculture is expected to play a critical role in boosting food production and supporting farmers across Nigeria.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga announced the appointment in a statement on Friday. According to the statement, President Tinubu also approved the appointments of seven others as chairmen and heads of federal agencies.

Muhammad Babangida, 53, holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in public relations and business communication from the European University in Montreux, Switzerland. He also completed Harvard Business School’s executive program on corporate governance in 2002.

Other key appointments announced include:

Lydia Musa from Kaduna State as chairman of the Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority (OGFZA).

Jamilu Wada from Kano State as chairman of the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).

Hon. Yahuza Ado Inuwa from Kano State as chairman of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON).

Sanusi Musa (SAN) from Kano State as chairman of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR).

Prof. Al-Mustapha Aliyu from Sokoto State as director-general of the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA).

Sanusi Rikiji from Zamfara State as director-general of the Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations (NOTN).

Mrs Tomi Somefun from Oyo State as managing director of the National Hydro-Electric Power Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC).

Dr Abdulmumini Mohammed Aminu-Zaria from Kaduna State as executive director of the Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC).

The appointments take immediate effect.
