The Lagos State Government has pledged to ensure justice for Mrs Folajimi, a pregnant woman whose tragic death has sparked outrage after she was allegedly denied emergency care by a private hospital in Lakowe, Ibeju-Lekki, due to her inability to pay a deposit.

Describing the incident as “tragic and shocking,” the state’s Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, on Saturday confirmed that a full investigation has been launched to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death and hold all responsible parties accountable.

The investigation, led by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA), will examine the role of both a traditional birth attendant and the private hospital said to be involved. Authorities are currently interviewing key individuals tied to the case.

Prof. Abayomi stated that the probe will determine whether the facilities were registered with HEFAMAA, adhered to emergency care protocols, and complied with approved medical practices.

“If negligence or breaches in medical standards are confirmed, there will be swift consequences,” he declared.

The government also used the moment to remind all public and private health facilities to comply with HEFAMAA’s regulations, including proper registration and routine inspections. The public has been urged to report any facility operating without approval.

“This is not just about accountability; it’s about preventing another avoidable death. We owe it to every mother, every child, and every family,” Abayomi said.

He also called on traditional, religious, and medical leaders to work together in promoting safer maternal healthcare practices across the state.

“The state is committed to seeking justice for Mrs Folajimi and ensuring this kind of heartbreak never happens again,” he added.
