Former President Muhammadu Buhari has declared his unwavering commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC), affirming that he remains a dedicated member and will actively work to strengthen the party.

Buhari’s statement, released by his former spokesperson Garba Shehu on Wednesday, comes at a time of growing political shifts ahead of the 2027 elections.
“I am an APC member, and I like to be addressed as such. I will try to popularize the party by all means,” Buhari said.
Buhari Stands by APC Amid Defections
The former president emphasized that leading Nigeria under the APC remains the greatest honour of his political career, adding that he has nothing but gratitude for the party’s support during his tenure.
He also highlighted the sacrifices of APC’s founding fathers, stressing the need to protect democracy and uphold the party’s principles.
His remarks come as key political figures, including former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, have left the APC, citing ideological differences and internal issues. El-Rufai recently defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) after informing Buhari of his decision.
While Buhari did not directly reference El-Rufai’s defection, his reaffirmation of loyalty sends a clear message amid speculations of internal discord within the ruling party.
“He wants to leave no one in doubt that he would never turn his back on the party that gave him two terms of office and would do whatever he can to popularize it,” the statement read.
With political realignments intensifying, Buhari’s stance reinforces his continued influence within the APC and his determination to support the party’s stability ahead of the next elections.
