Tragedy has struck the Anambra State House of Assembly as the lifeless body of Justice Azuka, the Labour Party lawmaker representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency, was discovered near the Second Niger Bridge.
Justice Azuka was reportedly kidnapped on December 24, 2024 along Ugwunaobankpa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha while he was returning home for Christmas. Witnesses say he was abducted at gunpoint in a swift operation that lasted less than five minutes.
The grim discovery was made on Thursday by a joint security team composed of Police and AVG operatives, according to Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command. Speaking shortly after the incident, Ikenga stated:
“In the early hours of today, 6/2/2025, at the Second Niger Bridge, while on a mission to rescue the abducted Hon. Azuka, our team regrettably found his lifeless, decomposing body at the scene. We are currently investigating the matter and working to arrest the suspects involved.
Justice Azuka, who had reclaimed his mandate following a court ruling that nullified the earlier victory of Douglas Egbuna of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 elections, leaves behind a community in mourning. Further updates are awaited as the investigation continues.
