Mohamed Salah’s Controversial Penalty Seals Liverpool’s Victory Over Bournemouth

Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table with a 2-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday, but Mohamed Salah’s opening goal came under scrutiny after a controversial penalty decision.

The Reds took the lead in the 30th minute when Mohamed Salah converted from the spot after Cody Gakpo appeared to trip over his own feet rather than being brought down by Lewis Cook. Despite protests from Bournemouth, VAR upheld the decision, leaving the hosts frustrated.

Mohamed Salah, who later sealed the win with a composed second goal in the 75th minute, now has 21 goals in 23 league games this season. His brace also moved him past Frank Lampard into sixth place on the Premier League’s all-time scoring chart with 178 goals.

Liverpool’s unbeaten run now stands at 19 league games, further solidifying their title credentials under Arne Slot. With a nine-point gap over second-placed Arsenal, the Reds edge closer to reclaiming the Premier League crown.

However, Slot faces an injury concern after Trent Alexander-Arnold was forced off in the second half. Liverpool will now turn their attention to overturning a 1-0 deficit against Tottenham in the League Cup semi-final on Thursday.
