Renowned music executive and CEO of Kennis Music, Kenny Ogungbe, has reopened the debate over the iconic 2004 hit song African Queen, shedding light on the feud between former Plantashun Boiz members Blackface and 2Baba.

Speaking on the Honest Bunch podcast, Kenny Ogungbe revealed that Blackface was the first among the trio to release music but was not officially credited for his contributions when African Queen was registered under 2Baba’s name with BMI (Broadcast Music Incorporated) in the U.S.

“I gave Plantashun Boiz a contract to sign because I wanted to sign them, but they did not return. The first to release a song was Blackface, but his name was not on African Queen when we registered it,” Kenny Ogungbe stated.

Blackface has long accused 2Baba of taking undue credit for the song, leading to years of public feuds and legal disputes. Ogungbe’s disclosure seemingly validates Blackface’s claims, fueling discussions on fair recognition and royalties in the music industry.

The controversy surrounding African Queen, a track that launched 2Baba to international stardom, highlights ongoing issues of credit and compensation within the Nigerian music scene.

Fans and industry stakeholders are once again divided, with many calling for a resolution to the decades-long dispute.
