Oshiomhole Defends Son’s Appointment as Edo Health Commissioner Amid Criticism

Edo North Senator Adams Oshiomhole has defended his son Cyril’s appointment as Edo State Commissioner of Health, emphasizing his qualifications for the role.

Oshiomhole, a former Edo governor, revealed that Cyril is a United States-trained medical doctor with postgraduate studies at Harvard and Louisiana universities, specializing in public health.

Oshiomhole acknowledged the criticism surrounding Governor Monday Okphebolo’s decision, labeling it as a perceived “state capture” and “political reward.” He expressed initial concerns to the governor but noted that Cyril’s qualifications and professional achievements were pivotal in the appointment.

“I invested in my children’s education to ensure they didn’t face the struggles I endured. Cyril earned this role through his expertise, not his surname,” he stated.

The appointment comes shortly after Governor Okphebolo’s inauguration, drawing mixed reactions across Edo State.
