Davido: I smoke but I don’t count weed as a drug

Nigerian music icon Davido has sparked conversation with his perspective on cannabis use, stating that he does not consider it a hard drug.

Speaking during an appearance on The Morning Hustle podcast, the singer addressed criticism about his plans to combat drug abuse while being open about his personal use of cannabis.

During the interview, Davido revealed that his foundation is committed to supporting orphanages and tackling the rising issue of drug addiction among youths. He shared his intent to contribute towards initiatives aimed at reducing substance abuse, particularly in young populations.

“This year, I’m donating to the fight against drug abuse among youths,” he stated. However, he clarified his stance on cannabis, adding, “I don’t count weed as a hard drug. Some people are saying I smoke weed, but I don’t count weed as a drug.”

Davido emphasized the urgency of addressing addiction, noting its growing prevalence. “A lot of people have been going through a lot recently. Drug addiction is becoming rampant. So I want to donate to that cause to help them quit,” he said.

His comments have generated a mix of reactions, with some applauding his philanthropic efforts while others debate his position on cannabis.
