Shyngle Wigwe, father of deceased former Access Bank CEO, Herbert Wigwe, has revealed that his son was a source of joy to him for all the years spent on earth.

Urging well-wishers and loved ones of the ex-bank boss not cry over his death, the 89-year-old because human beings are destined to die.

Mr Wigwe said this while receiving leaders of the Ohaneze Ndigbo at his home on Tuesday.

The clergyman said that he was happy that God gave him Herbert. He, however, noted that his son was not dead but had been promoted to a greater realm.

He said, “As a child of God, I’m happy with the gift of God in the person of Herbert, that gift he gave to me for 57 years, gave so much joy, and when it pleased him to take Herbert, yes he called Herbert home.

“Naturally one would be sad. I tell you today Herbert is not dead, indeed he has been promoted to another realm. When people come to see me crying, when you look round, there is hardly anybody who is likely to live here for another 70 years. I would want to go to that same place Herbert has gone to.

“We are just crossing; this is like a normal market that we go to, everybody you go and buy and go back home, we are in transit here, this is a temporary place. And here in this place one thing we know is that death has no respect  for anybody…One thing is definite everyone of us here will go and so there’s no point crying and what is important is where you re going to…”

Wigwe, his wife and son and a former group chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, died in a helicopter crash that occurred near a border town between California and Nevada in the United States on February 9.

The remains of the deceased have been buried at a private cemetery within the Wigwe University premises in Isiokpo.

Among the dignitaries who attended the funeral service were Akpabio, Wigwe’s business partner Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote; former governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi; and former minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

Also present was former presidential candidate, Peter Obi; Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, Senator Seriake Dickson, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Muhammadu Sanusi among others.
