Nigerian Government Closes Third Mainland Bridge For 24 Hours, Cites Reason

The Nigerian government has announced the temporary closure of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

The closure will take place from midnight on Saturday, October 21, to midnight on Sunday, October 22, 2023, to facilitate necessary repairs and rehabilitation.

Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, issued a statement to inform the public of this decision.

The government aims to conduct comprehensive rehabilitation work on the bridge, beginning with repairs to critical sections.

To mitigate the ongoing challenges experienced on the bridge, the Ministry of Works will perform palliative repairs on the most critically damaged sections along the Adeniji bound carriageway on Sunday, October 22. This serves as a preparatory step for the comprehensive repair works.

Motorists are advised to cooperate with traffic management officials and follow the designated diversions to ensure smooth traffic flow.

During the palliative works, the Adeniji bound of the Third Mainland Bridge will be closed to traffic from Saturday, October 21, until midnight on Sunday, October 22. Motorists are encouraged to explore alternative routes whenever possible during this period.
