Google has unveiled a series of updates to its Bard chatbot, expanding its capabilities to include access to Google’s suite of tools such as YouTube, Google Drive, and Google Flights.
These updates enable users to utilize Bard for a wider range of tasks, such as planning trips with real flight options or summarizing meeting notes stored in Google Drive documents.
The updates aim to enhance Bard’s utility and sophistication, as tech giants like Google and Microsoft compete to offer increasingly sophisticated AI technologies to consumers.
Google’s integration of Bard with its other services enhances its overall functionality, marking the biggest update to Bard in six months.
The new capabilities include the ability to communicate with the chatbot in multiple languages, fact-checking features, and improvements to the underlying language model.
By drawing on information from YouTube, Google Maps, Flights, and Hotels, Bard can now provide more comprehensive responses and assist with various tasks. Users can also link their Gmail, Docs, and Google Drive to Bard for managing personal information.
To address the issue of AI “hallucinations,” where AI tools provide confident but inaccurate responses, Bard is introducing a “double-check” button.
This feature allows users to evaluate the accuracy of Bard’s responses by highlighting segments where Google Search results confirm or differ from the chatbot’s statements.
Additionally, Bard now allows users to share conversations with others, enabling collaboration and expanding the scope of interactions with the chatbot.
These updates aim to demonstrate the practical value of AI chatbots like Bard and make them more than just novelty features.
