The Federal Government (FG) of Nigeria has declared Monday, October 2, as a public holiday to mark the country’s 63rd independence celebration.

The announcement was made by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Oluwatoyin Akinlade, on behalf of the government.

In a statement issued by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Nigerians were congratulated on the occasion, and the government affirmed its commitment to addressing the challenges facing the nation.

The statement also acknowledged that Nigeria faces socio-economic and security challenges, which are global in nature, and reassured citizens that the government is actively working to confront these challenges.

The Minister emphasized the importance of unity in achieving the nation’s greatness and highlighted Nigeria’s prominent position in Africa.

The low-key celebration of the 63rd independence anniversary was also mentioned, with no invitations extended to world leaders, in line with the government’s choice for a subdued commemoration.
