The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has called on the Federal Government to create favorable conditions for the return of individuals currently in exile.
The council urged the government to fulfill its responsibility of providing equal protection to all citizens and constituent groups in the country.
Among those in exile, the YCE specifically mentioned Prof. Banji Akintoye and Chief Sunday Igboho, who they claim were harassed for advocating for the proper and dignified treatment of their law-abiding kinsmen.
This statement was made in a communique issued by the YCE during its meeting in Ekiti State.
The council also expressed concern about the declining acceptance of the Yoruba language, culture, and civilization.
Additionally, the meeting discussed the presentation of a book titled ‘Yoruba Renaissance, Challenges and Prospects’ by Sir Egunjobi, describing it as a timely exploration of Yoruba history and contemporary affairs, highlighting both recurring and emerging challenges and prospects for the Yoruba people.
