Olajide Adediran, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has said that it is not true that the West African Examination Council (WAEC) brought Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s certificate to the governorship election petition tribunal to clear up the claim that he gave the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) a fake WAEC result.
Gbenga Ogunleye, who is in charge of the campaign’s media and communications, said in a statement yesterday that the purpose of the lie was to trick the public and hide the fact that the governor was accused of giving INEC a fake WAEC statement of result.
He said, “It is important to note that a representative of WAEC, who was asked by the tribunal to present Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s certificate under oath, said that WAEC is unable to do so.”
“Even though he showed what he said was a master list showing that the result had been quickly uploaded by WAEC, Sanwo-Olu was unlucky because the names on the newly uploaded result were different from the names on the Ijebu-Ife Community Grammar School’s statement of results that he had submitted for the 2019 elections.”
“The name on the uploaded result is Sanwo-Olu Olusola Babajide, but the name on the one given by the school in Ijebu-Ife where he said he took the test is Sanwo-Olu Babajide. It’s the same year, the same exam date, but the names are different.
“Under cross-examination, the WAEC witness said that different names suggest that the same person did not get these results,”
“It should be remembered that the PDP candidate, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran (JANDOR), had questioned the legitimacy of the sudden upload of the 1981 WAEC result after it was shown to be a fake on that site.
“In the meantime, the tribunal has sent WAEC another subpoena to bring its result verification back-end server and other IT assets in front of the court and all parties for forensic analysis.
“We ask the good people of Lagos state to ignore the false information that is being spread and to keep asking for transparency and fairness in the election petitions tribunal that is going on in the state.”
