Meet Patricia Bebia Mawa, Nigerian Media Amazon In Canada

Canada is fast become a destination of choice for many Nigerians due to the peaceful living the North American country offers and there are many Nigerians who are hoisting high the flag of the country in across various industries in Canada.

One of such personalities is Patricia Bebia Mawa, the Executive Vice President of Silvertrust Media and Afroglobal Television, the largest Black-owned media organization in Canada. Prior to her appointment, she served as President & CEO of Planet Africa Group and Broad Frame Media. She has directed and produced over 15 television programs including The Visionaries, The Golden Button and Standing Ovation. She is the writer and director of Afroglobal Television’s new drama series Omobella Palace. She is the host of Planet Africa, the longest lasting show of its kind in Canada on OMNI TV.

She is the Associate Publisher of Excellence, Envision and Destiny Magazines. In 2008 Silvertrust Media, introduced the Discover magazine series, which has since released over 20 titles and editions for organizations and countries.

Prior to migrating to Canada, she was the host of Lunch Date and Thinking About You on DBN Television in Lagos, Nigeria. Her career in television started at NTA Calabar as host of Sweltyme’s Gospel Music Therapy. Listed in the Who’s Who in Black Canada, she is a recipient of the Toronto Police Community Service Award, the International Women Achievers Award, the BPPA Harry Jerome Award, York Regional Police’s Civic Leadership Award, the Reelworld Visionary Award, the Martin Luther King DreamKeeper Award and a Queen Elizabeth’s 11 Diamond Jubilee Medal. She is named as one of 100 Accomplished Black Women by 100ABC Women. In 2020 Patricia was appointed chair of the Reelworld Screen Institute and in 2021 and to the Advisory board of Trebas College, part of the World University System.

Patricia and her husband Moses have been featured on CNN International in a half hour special. In March 2016, the duo launched Afroglobal Television, a 24-hour television channel that is currently on Rogers Cable, Bell Fibe, Eastlink and Telus across Canada. In 2018, Patricia co-authored the 150 Extraordinary Canadians Legacy book, with a foreword by the Right Hon. Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada. The mother of four is the co-founder of the Crossover Mentorship Program, a youth empowerment initiative.
