Tems becomes first Nigerian female to win best international artiste at BET Awards
Singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known Tems, has won the Best International Act at the BET Awards 2022, making her the first Nigerian female artiste to win the award.
The 2022 award ceremony was held on Sunday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The BET Awards celebrate Black excellence in music, culture and sports.
Tems was nominated alongside Fireboy, Dave (U.K.) Dinos (France) Fally Ipupa (Democratic Republic of the Congo) Little Simz (U.K.) Ludmilla (Brazil) Major League DJz (South Africa) Tayc (France).
This is the first international award Tems is receiving for her own record while for the night, she already received an award for her record with Wizkid and Justin Bieber.
Tems won the best collaboration for ‘Essence’ which featured pop star Wizkid and American singer Justin Bieber.
Wizkid, however, lost the best R&B/Pop artiste category to The Weekend.
