The Lagos State Government has appointed the erstwhile Chairman of the Lagos State  Chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mr Musiliu Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo as the pioneer GM/MD of the Lagos State Transportation Parks and Garages Management Committee.

This was revealed on Instagam by his son.

He wrote: “Congratulation boss Alh. King Musilio Akinsanya Ayinde Musiliu Akinsanya Ayinde the GM/MD Lagos State Transportation parks and Garages Management committee, Oye Amori ooo @kingmcoluomo”

On Thursday, MC Oluomo was suspended for alleged insubordination by NURTW national headquarters. The suspension letter was signed by NURTW’s General Secretary, Kabiru Yau, and dated March 9th, 2022.

In the letter, the union leader was suspended over alleged misconduct, insubordination, and inciting members of the state chapter against its national body.

With the development, the NURTW directed Akinsanya to hand over to his deputy chairman and release all property belonging to the union in his possession.

Meanwhile, MC Oluomo, has announced the withdrawal of members of the state’s council, including himself, from the national body.

He made the announcement at the state secretariat, Agege on Thursday.

Oluomo in his address titled, ‘Crisis in NURTW’, MC Oluomo said, “There has been some crisis in our umbrella body, NURTW. All attempts to have an amicable resolution have failed. In fact. we have protested to the Lagos State Government about the State of affairs in our Union.”

Stating his withdrawal from the national regulatory body, MC, declared, “Therefore, I, Comrade Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, on behalf  of the State Administrative Council, State Executive Council members and the entire union rank and file members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Lagos State Council with over 200 branches and zones hereby resolve to immediately withdraw our membership and operation from the National body of NURTW for peace to reign in Lagos State; write to Lagos State Governor, Lagos State Ministry of Transportation and other relevant agencies about our decision.”

In the same vein, the state government released a statement which suspended all NURTW activities in the state.

It read, “The Lagos State Government has been watching closely events in the National Union of Road Transport Workers Union (NURTW). There have been claims and counter claims over the control of the union.

The Government has a duty to ensure the safety of lives and property of all Lagosians and visitors. Therefore, there is an urgent need to douse the unnecessary tension generated by the leadership tussle in the NURTW and protect the citizenry from the likely fallout of the situation.

After considering the provisions of the law, the Government hereby suspends the activities of NURTW, which must cease to operate in all parks and garages in Lagos State. The  Government will set up a Committee to immediately take control of the parks and garages. Members of the committee will be key stakeholders in the sector.”
