The Twitter account of President Donald Trump has been permanantly deleted, the company announced in a blog post on Friday
Twitter announced on Friday night it has permanently deleted Trump’s account.
The social media giant said in a blog post that it moved to take away the president’s account due to risk of ‘further incitement to violence’ after his supporters rioted through the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday.
It comes after hundreds of Twitter employees signed a letter to CEO Jack Dorsey asking for the account to be removed.
Despite our efforts to serve the public conversation, as Trump’s megaphone, we helped fuel the deadly events of January 6th,’ the employees wrote.
‘After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them — specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter — we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence,’ the company said in a blog post.
